I am an artist who loves to work in acrylic on canvas. My subject is the natural world, be it landscape, animal or still life. I paint because of a powerful emotional response to the rhythms of what I see. I feel compelled to continue because of the satisfaction that comes from the effort and the fun "aha" moments when I learn something new!
My work is painted directly with very little preplanning, a product of on-the-spot reaction to whatever the scene or setup might be. I enjoy paint generously applied in layers with visible brush strokes on rough textured canvas. I am excited by the tension created in the contrast between an abstract, active underpainting and the subject.
I'm painting my love of life and dance and music into swirling shapes, colors newly imagined and conceived--miraculously I'm seventeen again, running onstage to dance what was then and what is now...I feel, I hear, I move.
I hope that this work reflects my theatrical self and unshakeable belief in the interconnectedness, beauty and spirituality of all the arts and all living things.
